Arctic Circle 66.33°N
66.33°N — above an Invisible Line
My latest project is to travel east around the Arctic Circle, above the latitude line of 66.33°N. The Arctic Circle border is both a geographical marker and a symbolic threshold — an invisible line that exists only on maps, yet cuts across vast landscapes and cultures.
This project documents contemporary life above the Arctic Circle. Travelling by public transport and staying with local residents, I will move through environments ranging from remote landscapes to urban centres. Rather than focusing on extreme survival, the work highlights everyday life and explores how communities are adapting to globalisation, tourism, and rapid climate change.
Using primarily analogue photography, I aim to slow the process of documentation and encourage deeper observation and connection. Through conversations, immersive research, and film photography, the project combines historical context with contemporary reality, creating an intimate visual record of adaptation and resilience in a changing Arctic. The limitations of film also bring greater intention to each image, while darkroom work helps reconnect the project to traditional photographic practices.
Ideally, the final exhibition will consist of 66.33 images, reflecting the latitude itself and forming a visual narrative of life along this evolving boundary.
